Did I mention this was a rant? Sense really has no place in it!

 
Hmm - well it's been a quiet, and yet incredibly busy week!!!

How is that possible I hear you scream?! Well last week I had absolutely bugger all work - Prior to Sunday I was awaiting the new Judge Dredd audio I'm working on, so obviously I had no work then - nor did I have any work from the BBC, so things were rather dull to say the least, in fact I'd go so far as to say I was bored out of my brain!! On Saturday I received an email asking if I'd be interested in producing 5, 2 minute trailers of the previous Dredd CD's for inclusion on the Big Finish Website. Well of course I said I'd love to do it, as not only was it some extra cash - but also a chance to try out something completely different - where my work on the trails will almost certainly boost further sales of the already available CD's.

On Sunday I went to the 10th Planet (science fiction shop in Barking) for a lovely signing with the extremely special guest appearance of Janet Fielding. Janet was in Doctor Who for several years at the beginning of the 1980's, and this is the first personal appearance she has done related to Doctor Who in the last ten years - so a must!!! As I was going up to the Dredd recording on the day - I thought I'd just get up earlier and attend both. As it happens I left the house at 7am, to get to the signing which started at 11, and then move on the to the studio. I eventually got home about 11pm that night - so it was an incredibly full on day!!!

The recording was, as ever, a great deal of fun. The best bits require all the cast and crew to go into the studio's to record all the "crowd scenes". The one section of particular note was a drug enduced orgy!!!!!! Very funny to actually perform this kind of stuff in the most unlikely of surroundings! Unfortunately there was a disproportionate number of male to female cast members (something like 9-1) so Hannah (our only female cast member, bless her - such a brilliant actress) was required to record more "orgy" sound track on her own. Now if you actually sit (or stand) and try and make all manner of groaning noises for more than about 10 seconds without cracking up, or going all coy - then it'll give you some idea of what this poor woman was going through. I have to say though -without going all luvvie, she really was superb - so professional - and gave it her all. And it really shows in the quality of the final recordings!!!! If you don't give it your all on audio, then it just sounds naff. So fortunately, in a figurative way - she was well up for it!!!! :-D

Anyway - (forgive the length of this entry - that's what comes through not updating regularly) on Monday I am about to begin working on the trails - and the full Dredd CD, when I get an urgent telephone message from John. I eventually make contact (via a very mobile phone line) and it turns out the guy who is doing the post production on the Dredd CD due out in about a fortnights time, hasn't finished editing, and is about to go away on holiday for a fortnight - Can I help out by finishing it for them?

Well, again - I say I'd love to. The CD and the trails can all go on the back burner whilst I work on the part finished CD, and then get on with my alloted tasks, when the rest of it is done. I've produced one trail - have yet to listen to the two audio's that have been sent to me (for trail-isation!!) and am now just awaiting the files and information from Ian to get on with "GET KARTER!!!", which should be grrrrrrrrrreat fun.

The story is actually a direct follow up to my last Dredd audio, "The Big Shot", and it was one of the ones I was hoping (rather selfishly I guess) I could work on. Well it looks like I got my wish in the end!!!!!

Now - I'm in a dilemma about my Swanny says today, so I think I may put two down - after all it's been absolutely ages!!!
